The Information Commissioner's Office has found the Department of Health in breach of the Data Protection Act following an investigation into a security breach on the Medical Training Application Service website.

The security breach in May made junior doctors' sensitive personal details, including religious beliefs and sexual orientation, accessible to anyone browsing the site.

The Department of Health has been told to encrypt personal data on its website, carry out regular tests and train staff in compliance with the Data Protection Act.
