  • Comment on: Quality information assurance: an understanding of governance, risk and compliance

    Anthony Parsons's comment 13-Jul-2009 9:22 am

I did indeed tune into this and asked a question which I thought was well answered. Just an observation really. It would be nice in the 24x7, always on, 21st Century workplace we live in if such events were available as a podcast so I could download to my iGizmo to wach/listen to when travelling. Just a thought... Tony Parsons

  • Comment on: Tories claim 'Google health records' are speculation

    Anthony Parsons's comment 7-Jul-2009 2:03 pm

I think Google would do an excellent job but would fight shy of Microsoft as they have lost their way when it comes to anything innovative and have become a consumer of other peoples good ideas. In fact that hasn't really changed much, all their premier sales products wee someone elses once... Google may possibly go the way of Microsoft when they produce an operating system that is agile (which it will be) but it will be a change and migration process most won't consider so will never achieve Microsofts pervasiveness. Microsft owns the desktopn BUT not in corporates who want a susatainable infrastructure. Windows XP SP2 is in most corporates who had he good sense not to migrate to Vista, which quie frankly, Windows meets the teletubbies. All the song and dance abouit the 'new' Windows 7 is just a fixed Vista. MAc made the smart move to adopt UNIX as its core operating system which has always been a corporate standard...I suppose I am biased as I use Google-everything including purchasinfg storage which when you factor the total cost of ownership is cheaper than the bloated disks you ccan buy (but have o manage, backup etc.) from PC world...

  • Comment on: Information Centre to focus on boosting data quality

    Anthony Parsons's comment 10-Jun-2009 1:36 pm

Well I for one would like to thanks Adam for his evidence based and polite response. All too fequently it is easy to post anonymous rants without allowing a reponsible respondent to engage with a perceived issue. Thanks i will take a look as I have certain issues I have with idenity management in the NHS and provenance of information which I am no so arrogant to think haven't already been discussed if not any national solution. • Comment on: The expenses scandal is heading your way

    Anthony Parsons's comment 2-Jun-2009 12:04 pm

Its not uncommon to supplement salary with bonuses/perks/expenses in many professions. The only difference is that public servants (of whatever flavour) are and should be publicly accountable. This will be interesting though as there is a compensation chasm in the NHS so it will be amusing to see it open up and expose those who until now have traversed or hovered above it. I always thought it was going to be long hot summer and future revelations will only fuel yet more social unrest. Sad but true...

  • Comment on: Public sector staff drinking habits damaging health

    Anthony Parsons's comment 2-Jun-2009 10:37 am

Whilst this is a really useful survey does it really tell us anything we didn't already know? Societally we have a major issue with alcohol le alone public sector workers. Alcohol misuse and abuse in general terms in the NHS (certainly as far as patient episodes go) is massively under reported. As I work in Information I was asked by a local GP who was presenting on local talk radio the seriousness of under age alcohol related injuries presenting a A&E. The plain fact is (and ask anyone who works in A&E) the Friday and Saturday night floods of patients presenting with drink related injuries is rarely recorded as such as patching them up is a priority and the niceties of correctly recording and coding the correct ICD code secondary. More often than not front line staff are more concerned (quite rightly) with their personal safety from abusive behaviour and assault, but that is another issue for another column I guess... TP
