Comment on: Minister casts doubt on use of tariff across mental health
There still seems to be a few misconceptions about the shape and form of Mental Health PbR, given some of the comments above. Fair comment on some of the points though, the potential to promote innovation has yet to be decribed. Could I urge Anonymous 19 December, 10pm to look at the clinical model framework upon which the MH PbR currency mechansim is based? You may be pleasantly surprised.

Comment on: Data quality concerns delay mental health tariff
This is a bit of a non-story. Go back a few years and we were struggling to move records on to elcetronic systems and train clinicians to use them consistently. Now we are aghast that the data quality is not sufficient to be assured of a clear date for implementation. Critics and sceptics of the process may like to reflect on the evolution of the MH PbR model through an extensive needs-focussed clinical model which is also still being refined. The model shifted away from diagnosis and service or setting-specific items because they cannot consistently demonstrate what service users actually need during their pathway of care. Aligning a clinical model with appropriate data requirements and then wrapping the costing mechanism around it, will inevitably take time to get right.
