Comment on: Specialist doctors say NHS is institutionally ageist
If the experiences I had with both parents in health service circumstances is anything to go by, I would say that unless an elderly person has an advocate or a relative who can mediate for them, ideally with health service experience and knowledge, they are very likely to receive a poor service and be extremely vulnerable in hospital

Comment on: Let's do away with nurses' stations
What a shame this blog has set up an "us against them" feeling. My impression is that it shows a total lack of understanding of roles, not helped by the likes of Holby City and Casualty programmes where the patients seem to take less precedence than the staff relationships and gripes. Surely as professionals we are above this simplistic reality. Having worked as a ward sister in the past but now in the community, I too see snapshot views of visiting the wards but with my past experience know that sometimes sitting at the nurses station is a relief from constantly attending to patients needs and quiet (ish) contemplation is needed for accuracy of recording what has been done with a patient. Rarely is the chatting about issues that do not concern the work in hand as it should be nipped in the bud by the trained and experienced nurses in charge of the ward

Comment on: Adolescent services: smells like teen spirit
I'd be surprised if the majority of government officials who are currently involved in the strategy (hopefully adolescent specialists being the exception!) are aware of the origin of the title of the article!
