    Frank Palma's comment 23-Jul-2009 6:25 pm

The National Care Service, over the long term is unaffordable if FACS is not applied, So how is it that Sunderland ranked in the top 10% of deprivated Local Authorities do not apply FACS to its population, yet where I live is in the 10% least deprivated yet the 2 top levels of critical & Substanial apply, this is ot right, maybe Sunderland can sent a turnabout team to where I live which is a 4 star Authority Not good enough. I could go on.

  • Comment on: Trusts still fail to give whistleblowers a voice

    Frank Palma's comment 16-Jul-2009 8:43 am

Good Article, HSJ could have gone further and published Public Concern atWork (PCaW) contact details. The FT Governors at University Hospitails Bristol NHS FT has requested that details of PCaW contact details are reproduced and incorporated into the Trust's Whistleblowing Policy with the next steps to be discussed being Contact numbers and E-mail address of FT Governors.

It would be interesting to see,how many NHS trusts are aware that the DOH since April 2008 has a contract service Level Agreement with Public Concern at Work (PCaW) to provide confidenitial Whistleblowing support, advice and guidance to all NHS empoyees, If the Trusts do not convey this info to staff(is this by design?) then nothing we change. It would be interesting to know how many NHS Trust even know about this scheme, How about a random survey HSJ ?

'She said it had been more difficult to run than networks for other areas because of its size.' This is a problem that has been created by the bid for the Host contract by Staffordshire University and accepted by Staffordshire Council, PLEASE INCREASE YOUR HOST STAFFING from your budget. Without knowing all the details it is hard to have a view. What is clear after having read the Annual Report for 2008/2009 is that the Staffordshire LINks covers a population of over 786,000 with a annual budget of over £271,000 and yet it would appear that only 3 members of staff are employed, where are the Community development workers? Seem to me that the Host organisation do not have enough staff, yet the council approved the contract specification put forward by Staffordshire University As a LINks in the west country with a population of 250,000 and a annual budget of £110,000 we have 2 FTE host staff. I cannot see how LINks in Staffordshire can be a success without the right support from the Host.

  • Comment on: How to tackle equality and diversity in the health service

    Frank Palma's comment 29-Jun-2009 8:51 am

This article is more about improving patient experience and less to do with Equality and Diversity, for example iCARE (Yeovil FT) should be a stand alone care policy for improving patient experience care that has had a Equality impact assessment undertaken which accords with the trust's Single Equality Scheme Policy.
