Calls for Expressions of Interest for the provision of a TB Diagnostic Screening Service
NHS Wandsworth
Wandsworth Teaching PCT invites Expressions of Interest from all suitably qualified and experienced healthcare providers (including general practitioners, social enterprise / third sector organisations and other providers) to provide a TB Diagnostic Screening Service.
The commissioning PCT, and the services sought, are as follows:
The Department of Health (DoH) has procured the supply of digital X-ray machines in 5 London prisons (Belmarsh, Brixton, Pentonville, Wandsworth and Wormwood Scrubs) for the purpose of screening all new and transferred prisoners for Tuberculosis (TB) on reception. This initiative is to strengthen the controls on TB in London which has nearly half of all TB cases in England.
Installation of this equipment began in January 2009 and will be phased over a period of months with the aim of all 5 being complete by Summer 2009.
The 5 London Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) who are responsible for healthcare in these 5 prisons (Greenwich, Hammersmith and Fulham, Islington, Lambeth and Wandsworth) are now aiming to procure/commission a single service for the reading and reporting of these TB screening images.
N.B. Wandsworth Teaching PCT reserves the right to award any resulting contract in a staged process, dependent upon participating PCT readiness. It is possible that further PCTs may also wish to be parties to the resulting agreement. The successful provider will be expected to incorporate all additions accordingly.
The key requirements of the TB Diagnostic Screening Service are as follows:
- suitable accommodation and network links for the digital x-ray reading/reporting service,
- sufficient resources to read to a high standard up to 125-175 x-rays per day,
- sufficient resources to report back all x-ray results to the originating prisons within 24 hours.
The contract will be awarded for an initial period of 3 years, and, subject to satisfactory performance and review against key performance indicators, may be extended for a further 2 years.
Those wishing to submit an Expression of Interest in tendering for the contract are asked to forward an email to the following address (david.mansfield@swlondonssp.nhs.uk). Please ensure the email is entitled ‘Expression of Interest_TB Diagnostic Screening_Wandsworth Teaching PCT’, to arrive before noon on 26 June 2009.
