DELIVERY OF THE CANCER AWARENESS MEASURE TOOL WITHIN THE NORTH LONDON CANCER NETWORK (NLCN): SURVEY DESIGN, DELIVERY, ANALYSIS AND REPORT

North London Cancer Network

The NHS Cancer Reform Strategy (2007) emphasised the importance of raising awareness of the early signs and risk factors of cancer within the general population to improve survival rates.

To assist the design and subsequent evaluation of interventions to raise awareness the Department of Health in partnership with CR-UK developed the Cancer Awareness Measure (CAM) tool.

CAM is a survey which can be used in any given population to provide a comprehensive assessment of knowledge of cancer symptoms, awareness of cancer screening programmes, health seeking behaviour according to potential cancer symptoms and barriers to seeking GP consultation. The CAM survey results will guide the development of specifi c interventions to encourage health seeking behaviour and act as a baseline from which to measure improvement.

The NLCN, hosted by Barnet PCT, are inviting applications from providers with a strong track record in the design, delivery and analysis of large, statistically robust surveys to deliver the CAM tool to the Network population to a high quality standard.

To access the research brief and application form, please visit Barnet PCT website at http://www.barnet.nhs.uk/tender, the documents will be listed under ‘Cancer Awareness Measure’, alternatively by request to Nicola.Mcculloch@uclh.nhs.uk

This is a single-stage tender process and applicants will need to submit their final proposal by 4pm on the 5th February 2010.
