Barnet Primary Care Trust invites Expressions of Interest for the provision of NHS Primary Medical Care and related services in the North London Borough of Barnet

NHS Barnet’s vision for 21st Century primary healthcare encompasses five main themes:
- Accessibility, timeliness and convenience
- Continuity of care where needed
- Delivering services closer to home and providing choice
- Evidence based practice and value for money
- Universal high quality services

The PCT’s Primary Care Strategy draws on these fi ve themes in conjunction with national and local policies to increase the range of services provided in a primary care setting, improve equity of access and meet the expected population increases linked to regeneration projects in Barnet. It is proposed to deliver the strategy through primary care centres developed across the borough over the next 10+ years.

Lord Darzi’s paper, High Quality Care for All - NHS Next stage Review Final Report, published on 30 June 2008, reaffi rmed the Government’s commitment to improve access to primary care services in England. The fi rst phase will be an investment of additional resources to enable every Primary Care Trust to establish a GP led Health Centre to supplement existing services.

NHS Barnet has chosen to procure its GP led Health Centre in the south of the borough where a population increase of 16,000 linked to Local Authority regeneration plans is anticipated. The GP led Health Centre will be a precursor to the PCT’s planned primary care centre for the area and will provide additional capacity to the healthcare services already in place and
have the ability to manage any early increases in population.

The NHS Barnet GP led Health Centre Procurement Scheme is an exciting and new opportunity to participate in the development of primary healthcare in Barnet. The PCT invites Expressions of Interest from all suitably qualifi ed and experienced healthcare providers (including general practitioners, social enterprise/third sector organisations and other providers) to provide a range of primary care, enhanced primary care, diagnostics and minor surgery services in the format of a GP led Health Centre.

Those wishing to submit an Expression of Interest in tendering for the contract are asked to do this in accordance with the instructions set out in the Memorandum of Information, Section 4.3, to arrive at the PCT offi ces before 2.00 p.m. on 18th June 2009.
