Expressions of Interest sought from prospective Lead Providers (Stage 2) of
postgraduate Medical and Dental Education for London
The London Commissioner for Medical and Dental Education (LCMDE) is seeking bids from organisations with the ambition and capacity to innovate and develop postgraduate training programmes that are demonstrably world class. Today’s trainees need to be prepared for tomorrow’s health care challenges; working and training with health care professionals from other specialities and disciplines in the delivery of integrated services configured around the needs of patients and populations.
Training programmes must prepare trainees to provide excellent care to the individual as well as contribute to the healthcare of a population; they must therefore meet the requirements of specialty curricula and allow trainees to engage with service models promoting the improvement of population health outcomes. Programmes must enable today’s trainees to gain appropriate skills to fulfil their future roles as leaders and shapers of a health service aiming to constantly improve the quality and safety of care; meeting increasing patient expectations in varying economic environments.
Delivery of high quality care requires a workforce trained to the highest standards. Our aim is to secure the best value from the £750m we invest every year in medical and dental training and education. In 2010 we appointed 10 Lead Providers to be responsible for managing 15% of London’s medical and dental education. In Stage 2 of our programme, we are offering a further 25% of education to be managed by existing or prospective Lead Providers.
We are now inviting expressions of interest from organisations who can demonstrably lead the improvement of the quality of medical education and training for the following specialties/specialty groups:
1. Cardiology* , Respiratory Medicine*, Diabetes* and Endocrinology & Geriatric Medicine* (individually, in any combination or as one)
2. Gastroenterology*
3. Renal Medicine*
4. Neurology, Neurophysiology and Audiological Medicine (as one)
5. Clinical Radiology
6. Higher Psychiatry - General Adult and Old Age (as one)
7. Higher Psychiatry - Forensic
8. Higher Psychiatry - Child and Adolescent
9. Higher Psychiatry - Psychotherapy
10. Higher Psychiatry - Learning disability
11. Obstetrics and Gynaecology
12. Trauma and Orthopaedics
13. Ophthalmology
* speciality must include General Internal Medicine

- Deadline for EoI –1st June 2011
- Pre-Qualification Questionnaire provided – 2nd June 2011
- Bidder Information Event – tbc week of 6th June 2011
- Pre-Qualification submission – 22nd June 2011
- Issue of draft Invitation-to-Tender (ITT) – 27th July 2011
- Bidder Information Event – tbc week beginning 1st August 2011
- Deadline for clarification questions – 5th August 2011
- Issue of Final ITT – 24th August 2011
- Tender closing date – 24th October 2011
- Preferred Bidders identified – 5th January 2012
- Contracts signed – February 2012
