Invitation to Tender

The Health & Social Care Partnership are inviting tenders from organisations to provide training to a number of identified Dementia Champions from acute hospitals across the South Central SHA area.

Background

The purpose of this funding is to improve the awareness and understanding of dementia in Acute Care by providing training to 16 identified ‘Dementia Champions’ across the South Central SHA area who can then identify, lead and maintain quality improvements in dementia care across their acute hospital.

Purpose

To address objectives 8 and 13 of the National Dementia Strategy (2009) and to improve the quality of care for people living with dementia whilst in hospital. This is in line with the government’s objectives and follows reports on the experience of people living with Dementia in acute care settings. It also meets the priorities set out in the NHS Outcomes Framework.

What

Up to £40K to provide a tailored course to be delivered by a training provider in the region, the training course should provide the delegate with an improved understanding and awareness of dementia and from there to have the ability to lead their teams to improve the experience of people with dementia whilst in acute care.

How

Train the 16 identified Dementia Champions from the acute sector through a series of sessions over a 6 month period with additional remote support/mentoring, to allow them to then cascade that training to their teams and implement a programme of improved dementia awareness within their own acute setting.  Internal evaluation following the training will also be required together will a detailed report at the end of the project.

The Health & Social Care Partnership will carry out additional quality monitoring and evaluation which will include a series of spot checks, to measure the impact of the training on the people being cared for and the staff hospitals.

Where

Training delivered in the SE region, locations to be identified following confirmation of the nominated Dementia Champions.

When

The training provider to be commissioned prior to the end of this financial year with the project to run between April and October 2012.
