Comment on: It's time to rethink payment by results
Two queries: Firstly, is a 'result' the same as an 'outcome'? Maybe this is being pedantic, but the use of 'outcome' instead of the more easily understood 'result' suggest potential for semantic jiggery-pokery by those i/c. Secondly, what about the ethics of denying the 50-year-old a knee replacement (rationing by cost/availability) in the certain knowledge that in several years' time (s)he will have "multiple long term needs" which unfortunately exclude discussion of a possible knee replacement thus saving the NHS a few £k whilst still providing "cost-effective care"?
