Thanks Diane. There is a glitch with the CSUs in the South West, and we already have CCGs for Cornwall, Devon and Cambs&Peterborough marked with no CSU. I'm not sure you are correct about some of the others - eg see http://www.hsj.co.uk/hsj-local/pcts/shropshire-county-pct/west-mercia-ccgs-choose-new-support-providers/5046935.article I will check though, interested to hear if that has changed. Thanks Dave

Hi all Thanks for the very interesting comments. We are certainly keen to cover these issues more. I know much of the concern is general, but it would be really helpful to hear from people about organisations, areas or cases, where there have been particular issues. You can contact me (dave.west@emap.com) or David (david.williams@emap.com) to discuss things without needing to make your name public. Dave

Hi Nicky. Apologies for the delay in replying - you can see that information on conditions here: http://www.commissioningboard.nhs.uk/files/2012/12/ccg-w1-outcome.pdf

Hi Anon 12.56 - I will have a think about how we can do this.

  • Comment on: Exclusive: GP practices' huge income variation revealed

    Dave West's comment 2-Nov-2012 1:04 pm

Hi, Carr-hill includes an adjustment for the additional needs of the population, relating to morbidity and mortality, as well as age and some other factors (http://www.dh.gov.uk/prod_consum_dh/groups/dh_digitalassets/documents/digitalasset/dh_112959.pdf). I will ammend the piece to make this clear. Practices' total income - which the piece says varies from about £65-£320 - does indeed in many cases include dispensing and premises funding. They are two of the numerous varying factors. If you are interested in the variation in core income (global sum and minimum practice income guarantee), see the related piece: http://www.hsj.co.uk/news/primary-care/revealed-the-cost-of-standardising-practices-core-income/5051156.article Thanks Dave

Thanks both Anon 12:49 - Birmingham is correct, they are in the process of merging, which is linked to there being no AO appointment I think. However, I don't believe there are many other mergers in process: One or two possibly. Andrew: Hopefully! Also CCGs will be publishing this in a more proactive way, presumably, from around April. What's your take on lay appointments so far Andrew?

  • Comment on: Steve Field appointed to NHS Commissioning Board

    Dave West's comment 3-Sep-2012 4:38 pm

Tom Easterling, the commissioning board's programme director, people transition, has responded via email: "A process had been agreed across the system for filling posts (‘Filling of posts in receiving organisations’) and we followed this process when making these appointments. "In summary, posts are initially made available for ring-fenced competition where people who are at risk can apply. Posts only go to open competition if they remain unfilled. "Steve Field was appointed through ring-fenced competition. Keith Willett was appointed through open competition as the post (domain lead 3 director) was not filled at the ring-fenced competition stage."

Hi Kosta - there are some more details here, too - http://www.commissioningboard.nhs.uk/about/working-for/ I think there is much internal-only advertisement going on for NHSCB posts. Prof Field does still have a substantive post with NHS West Midlands, so would have been eligible in some of the internal rounds. I believe Prof Willett would not have been eligible internally, as most of the national clinical directors were not, so that should potentially have been advertised more prominently. The NHSCB has said it intends to advertise for the remaining major medical post, of the other deputy medical director. Best Dave

  • Comment on: Local area team budgets dwarf CCG funds

    Dave West's comment 2-Aug-2012 12:03 pm

Anon 9:38 - It is demonstrating that some LATs have very large budgets in contrast to CCGs, which I think is interesting information for some people. It is not claiming to indicate they are overfunded relative to CCGs in some way, so I can't see your point. Anon 9:47 - North Somerset is indeed included with the Bristol LAT. We have a map which can show you their areas here - http://public.tableausoftware.com/views/Newsystemmap220712/Dashboard1 But a more easy to use map is in development.
