Comment on: Wealthy south set to gain from public health funding boost
There is nothing fair about post code lottery funding, be that for the NHS or Public Health. Do people in London really deserve or qualify for better healthcare than for example in the North of the country?

Comment on: Move from branded drugs could save NHS millions
Re: Francine Bennett, who carried out the data analysis, said: “We’ve suspected for some time that there were potential savings to be gained by looking at prescribing practices across the NHS Seriously? Everyone has known this surely for decades now? As a patient with a chronic disease, I am prescribed a drug by my hospital consultant, my local GP supplies me a different brand in his surgery, my local chemist dispenses a different one and now my local supermarket supplies yet another. In the mean time I am told the NHS can't afford to give me the drugs I really want as they have no funds. So who profits? Certainly not the clinicians or pharmacists based in the hospital or the surgery. This will only work if all pharmacies, community and supermarkets, partake in a transparent and honest way. If I buy a loaf of bread for 50p and elsewhere the same loaf is sold for £5, why would I pay £5, its the same flour and water and fills me up the same. Goodness me, this is the BASICS of any financial planning surely.

Comment on: NICE to back use of Lucentis for eye condition
Too many trusts running ophthalmology clinics have major capacity issues. While this NICE u-turn is hugely welcomed, (thanks NICE for allowing patients in England to see as well as patients in Scotland), medicines is only part of the solution. What is needed in many cases is an overhaul of entire patient pathways. CCGs legal duty to Innovate doesn't just mean providing drugs, it means decommissioning outdated ways of working. You cant just put a plaster on it and hope it will be fixed.

Comment on: Councils to be given 'above-inflation' public health budget rises
Great to see long term financial planning sense prevails in the public sector, maybe one day we can see even longer term plans. Here's hoping we don't have a repeat of post-code-lottery with our health in the hands of local government officials and that we have clinicians advising local government on public health. I am looking forward to the day that patients can sit on their local public health boards, similar to the NHS, allowing us to fully be in control of Our Health, Our Tax, Our Choices. Gone we hope are the old boys clubs that prevailed in too many a council office. Transparency, integrity and fairness is what is needed for patients and stakeholders alike Mr Selbie.
