  • Comment on: Sally Gainsbury: councils face a rude awakening

I love it when a special financial lone ranger blazes in and leaves various pink tinted spectacle glasses smashed on the floor of the Council saloons .. Meanwhile at the poker table the Health and Well Being cowboys are all betting, and the leather clad double gunned GP's have cards up their sleeves . Aces of self interest are concealed everywhere. Someone will notice there's too many being played. Someone will get shot. Calamity Sally has a fast rifle of insights too ... Oh I love it ... More predictions of Dodge City chaos please .. .

  • Comment on: Health and Wellbeing Boards 'should drive integration'

    Paul Tovey's comment 17-Sep-2011 3:58 pm

The Health and Well Being Board in Birmingham is up and running though needs development and some consistent good support by local councilors. There are a few good people on board and one manager who has some real integrity . The Joint Strategic Needs Assessment process (in the same building as the HWBB) and the Public Health team behind it could lead to being able to address some strategic health inequalities across Birmingham better . It appears (certainly impressionatically) the South side do fare better in some health arenas than anyone in the North and areas of central (HOB) Heart of Birmingham . Its still early days for new processes to be strategically effective - but there are some able people in this process and we should give it support . In mental health monitoring we are re-aligning part of our workplan because the JSNA has pointed up some areas we need to be concerned about to monitor and to aid provisioners . Its partly because of looking at the JSNA (and background information supporting it ) that I am quite concerned about some asylum seekers and refugee's who may have suffered torture and rape (and have PTSD) receiving appropriate services . Though since as from Aug 2011 I am now told they cannot receive "non urgent care" ! God knows where that puts them in terms of being able to recover enough to deal with their lives properly and uncertain immigration status and it is important that we deal with this since when mental health crisis gets too much it leads to sectionability and hospitalisation . And that is at a high cost . PBT MH Monitor .

  • Comment on: FTs will be compelled to report complaints by DH

    Paul Tovey's comment 26-Aug-2011 1:51 am

An important article - not surprising though with the culture of some Trusts and their lord-boards and ladies . FT's must be open to all not to just ritual accountability dances .... Sue S. is becoming quite slippery too - it must be the grease from the Board floors and they way they made to shine for dancing .....

  • Comment on: Exclusive: draft authorisation document reveals key tests for new commissioning groups

    Paul Tovey's comment 13-Aug-2011 1:42 am

I am looking at this with one eyebrow subject to auto-raised syndrome .... Meanwhile with independent magnifying glass in hand (the local involvement network one is spinning around somewhere) I am genuinely interested in helping to make anything work locally that will serve local populations well . I do see that patient reps and such stakeholders have a place at the table of CCG's. Well , potentially they do according to the document . It is worrying though that blueprints for patient and public involvements (PPI) are still ghostly at this stage . A lot of folk have knocked PPI but I for one with or without mechanisms of "LINk" or whatever passes for HealthWatch will be sherlocking about with silver whistle attached . I really would like to see good GP group commissioning take root though and patient choice grow more robustly .

  • Comment on: Sue Slipman: public board meetings are not a quick fix for accountability

Accountability Dogger-hell : You gotta start from somewhere Like an open door Before you can see The skaters on the Board's Cake icing floor Then take a breath in and say "I like my accountability without ice Just real and raw Yeahhh ..Hard core ...... " .
