There is quite a heated and not terribly well informed debate going on over at the Nursing times on this very subject.

Lots of calls for industrial action from many people. I don't pretend to understand the all the issues here but after watching Gerry Robinson and his attempts to fix the NHS something has got to change and Adrian Fawcett with his GHG seem to be the way of the future.

I am not sure how we stop the private sector from cherry picking the profitable bits of the NHS (what profit margin is there in dementia care and who exactly will fund long term research into cancer?) but speaking as one of the PBI (poor bloody infantry) working in the NHS something has got to change.

I take Anon @ 1.01 point exactly government run car companies gave us the Austin Allegro and the Trabant, government run health care has given us the NHS with its layers of management, meaningless performance targets, and initiatives like "productive ward/ community team, releasing time to care, which does nothing to increase productivity or release time to care.
