The Patient Safety Research Portfolio (PSRP) was established to promote patient safety research in the wake of the Department of Health's publication 'An Organisation with a Memory', a report on learning from adverse events in the NHS, (http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/Publicationsandstatistics/Publications/PublicationsPolicyAndGuidance/DH_4065083 ).

The PSRP is responsible to and funded by the Policy Research Programme and the Department of Health. Its aim is to commission research which (a) identifies the processes or structures that reduce the probability of adverse events, and (b) evaluates interventions that seek to change the health care system and improve patient safety.

The PSRP will officially come to an end in March 2009. This call is to invite proposals to conduct a creative synthesis of the outputs from the 38 research projects that were commissioned by the PSRP and further publications that have arisen from this work. The synthesis should review the reports and publications, elicit their key emerging messages, describe the lessons to be learnt and make recommendations for further research.

Up to £60,000 has been made available for this project, which should commence as soon as possible, and should be completed by 20 February 2009.  The closing date for applications is 2pm Thursday 5th June 2008.

Application forms for this single round process should be obtained from http://www.pcpoh.bham.ac.uk/publichealth/psrp/ or by contacting Nathalie Maillard on 0121 414 2634 or at n.c.maillard@bham.ac.uk
