PERFORMANCE Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals Foundation Trust is one of 26 trusts to have triggered risk summits, HSJ research has revealed.

Risk summits, introduced last October, can be called by regulators or commissioners when “there are concerns that a provider is potentially or actually experiencing serious quality failure”.

The new risk meetings were introduced by the Department of Health to help of safeguard quality and safety during the commissioning reorganisation.

HSJ’s investigation the risk summit concerning Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals FT took place on 6 November 2012 and was triggered by concerns about safety in its paediatric services.
