PERFORMANCE: Performance at Basildon and Thurrock Hospitals Foundation Trust slipped in February and the trust is now rating itself red against Monitor’s compliance framework.
A&E performance against the four hour standard dropped to 92.6 per cent, as the department struggled with increased patient numbers leading to a shortage of beds. The trust has introduced more hours cover by senior clinicians and managers and is preparing extensive plans for each weekend.
The Care Quality Commission had previously had moderate concerns about staffing in A&E but these have been downgraded to minor following an inspection earlier this month.
The trust is also struggling to meet standards for the non-admitted pathway.
