WORKFORCE: NHS Devon has identified a “serious child safeguarding concern” due to a lack of suitable paediatric posts, according to board papers.
The risk register, due to be presented to November’s board meeting, states there is a high risk of “inequity of provision across NHS Devon to provide safeguarding liaison services for vulnerable children” that are admitted to Royal Devon and Exeter Foundation Trust, North Devon Healthcare Trust and minor injury units.
It states: “The impact of not providing the paediatric posts could result in non identification of potential safe-guarding issues through lack of communication and
lack of information sharing process between agencies.”
The risk register admits there are no controls in place “unless staff are making direct contact with colleagues in the community” despite reccomendations of a serious care review in 2007-08.
A business case for posts was submitted to the the “stretegic allocation group” in November 2009, but has not yet been agreed.
