STRUCTURE: Staff and residents in Gloucestershire have overwhelmingly given their support to the creation of a new NHS trust for the county’s community services.

The board of NHS Gloucestershire is due to take a decision on Monday about the future of the services. The primary care trust had originally planned to transfer the services to a social enterprise but agreed to put the process on hold and go out to consultation following a legal challenge from a service user.

The PCT asked residents and staff to choose between transferring the services to an NHS community trust or going out to tender. Of the 2,564 survey responses received, 96 per cent favoured the first option.

Papers for next week’s board state the board would need to assure itself an NHS trust would be financially viable and able to provide safe, high quality care.
