STRUCTURE: The purchaser-provider split is set to be implemented on the Isle of Wight after the secretary of state approved plans to break up the existing primary care trust.

NHS Isle of Wight currently both commissions and provides NHS services for the island.

However board papers for the Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Portsmouth primary care trust cluster said plans to establish a separate provider organisation have been approved by the health secretary.

The “establishment order” will create the new trust from 1 April.
