STRUCTURE: NHS Isle of Wight is planning to separate its provider and commissioner functions by April 2012.
The Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Portsmouth PCT cluster considered the business case for breaking up NHS Isle of Wight at its board meeting in November.
At present a single organisation commissions and provides all NHS services on the island. The Isle of Wight NHS Trust is planned to be set up in April 2012, to provide all acute, community, mental health, ambulance and prison services.
The business case says setting up an NHS trust would be “a platform for further development as a future foundation trust.”
