WORKFORCE: Only 18 per cent of nursing staff at Luton and Dunstable Hospital Foundation Trust received a flu vaccination this winter, according to board papers.
A performance report to the trust’s March board meeting, released under the Freedom of Information act, included an update on the vaccination of staff. It said 1,095 staff at the hospital had been vaccinated as of February.
It listed the percentages of different staff groups who had been vaccinated:
* Doctors: 19.8 per cent
* Qualified nurses and midwives: 17.9 per cent
* Other professionally qualified clinical staff: 12.7 per cent
* Support to clinical staff (such as porters and domestics): 14 per cent
The Department of Health’s director of immunisation Professor David Salisbury urged all healthcare workers to get the vaccination in October 2010.
