FINANCE: The North of Tyne commissioners - Newcastle, North Tyneside and Northumberland Care Trust - were on course to deliver surpluses for 2010-11, despite acute overspends.

All three organisations, working as a cluster, were expecting small end-of-year surpluses in March. That was in spite of total overspending against the largest acute contract, with Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals Foundation Trust, of £9.2m as of the end of January, across the three. Collectively they were £8m overspent against plan with Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust.
