PERFORMANCE: The east London commissioning body reported screening 9,899 of eligible 16-24 year-olds up to January, 316 short of 2009-10’s full-year performance.

Screening roughly 350 a month for the first five months of 2009-10, that year saw a late surge in screenings with more than 4,000 of the year’s 10,205 screenings taking in place in quarter four.

The target given for 2010/11 is 14,280 screenings, equivalent to 35 per cent of the eligible population.

Newham is set to miss its cervical screening target for 2010-11.

With a target of 70 per cent of women aged 25 to 49 having been screened in the past three and a half years the PCT was predicting 64.6 per cent for 2010-11, down on 2009-10’s 67.3 per cent.
