PERFORMANCE: Darlington CCG has announced it is developing a primary care strategy, aimed at developing integrated care services around practices.
A paper to the CCG’s governing body by its chair and chief officer states: ““Whilst primary care services are commissioned by NHS England through Area Teams, the CCG has a clear responsibility or the quality of primary care in GP practices and enabling and assisting practices to improve quality and standards of clinical care within its member practices.
“With the support of the Area Team the CCG has started a major piece of work to develop a strategic plan for coordinated and integrated healthcare in Darlington, initially focused on GP practices.
“Darlington is a well-defined area with strong partnerships in place and a longstanding culture of collaboration between general practices. However, the full potential of new models of primary care provision is still to be realised and there is a sense of urgency to consider alternative models with the many drivers that exist both now and in the foreseeable future.”
The CCG has commissioned a steering group to carry out an “initial comprehensive consultation” led by GP Jenny Steel (Blacketts Medical Practice) and the CCG’s clinical chair Andrea Jones.
A second consultation will take place in the autumn and a “final report proposing a preferred vision for General Practice in Darlington and securing a Mandate for Change”.
