FINANCE: Northern Devon Healthcare Trust is forecasting a £232,000 slippage against its savings plan.

A report to the board reveals the trust is planning to achieve £8.7m of its £8.9m cash releasing efficiency savings plan during 2011-12.

The report blames increased activity from referrals above planned levels “that must be delivered to achieve access targets”, and a high level of emergency admississions for cost pressures.

However, the trust is confident it can still achieve the planned surplus due to additional income from NHS Devon.

The report said: “Based on the underlying activity that is currently in the system combined with the financial settlement with NHS Devon and corrective action taken in previous months, the financial plan to generate a £1.7m surplus in 2011-12 is forecast to be achieved.”
