STRUCTURE: NHS Peterborough’s GP commissioning sub-committee will take on responsibility for acute commissioning, referral management and prescribing budgets, according to board papers.
A draft scheme of delegation, submitted to NHS Peterborough’s February board meeting, sets out the role of the sub-committee to develop new commissioning bodies in parallel with the primary care trust.
The document said while accountability will rest with PCT board for its statutory functions: “Responsibility for budgets and operational management associated with the following functions with rest with the GP sub-committee: acute commissioning, referral management, [and] primary care prescribing.”
Two GP representatives each from the four emerging GP consortia; City Centre Cluster, North Central & Park Cluster, Central and North Cluster and Borderline Cluster; will sit on the committee, as well as a GP chair and two PCT non-executive directors.
Its remit includes working with the emerging Health and Wellbeing Board and “work with NHS Peterborough to align appropriate operational staff support to
the GP Consortia”.
