FINANCE: The mental health FT’s communications team has slashed the cost of producing its annual report over the last three years.

A review of the communication team’s activity for 2010 and 2011, stated that despite a requirement to include more content each year in the report, the communications team had reduced the cost to the trust over the past three years from £6,450 in 2007 to £2,232 in 2010.

It said: “Unlike other trusts, we manage the process in-house from design to content – only the printing is outsourced. This means that the comms manager is fully committed to this for nigh on three months from March to May as a major project.

“Other trusts such as Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Trust use an external company for both design and print – last year spending approximately £4,000 on 200 reports (we had 50 hard copies and 300 discs in presentation folders).”

It adds: “A speculative quotation has also been received recently for 200 reports of a similar specification to last year, including design, of £5,687. [But] we would still have to write it!”
