FINANCE: Southampton primary care trust is set to achieve its surplus target of £1.9m for the year, but is overspending on acute services and is only mitigating this through non-recurrent means.

Board papers for the Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and Portsmouth PCT cluster for January say: “The PCT continues to achieve its monthly target and is on track to deliver the year end planned surplus.

“Overspending on acute services is being offset with investment slippage and other non-recurrent sources including budget underspendings… the overspending level at University Hospitals of Southampton Foundation Trust shows no sign of improvement”.

The PCT has reported a £1.6m year to date surplus.
