A long serving hospital chief executive has been dismissed following a disciplinary hearing, HSJ has learned.

Ian Renwick was dismissed from his post leading Gateshead Health Foundation Trust after a disciplinary hearing on Friday.

The hearing was convened by chair Julia Hickey and the trust would not comment on the cause of the disciplinary proceedings.

A spokesman for the trust said: “Gateshead Health Foundation Trust has taken the decision to dismiss Ian Renwick as chief executive. Mr Renwick now has the right of appeal against this decision and therefore it would be inappropriate to comment any further at this time.”

Mr Renwick has 14 days to enter an appeal.

The deputy chief executive and director of finance at the £222m turnover trust, John Maddison, is acting chief executive.

Mr Renwick has led the organisation since August 2006.

The trust was rated good at its most recent Care Quality Commission inspection, with an outstanding rating in the caring category.
