STRUCTURE: Suffolk Mental Health Partnership Trust has announced Aidan Thomas as acting interim chief executive from Monday 14 March.

Mr Thomas is currently chief executive of Norfolk and Waveney Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust and will take over Suffolk while the two trusts attempt to merge and will become the overall chief executive if the plan is given the go-ahead.

Mark Halladay, the current chief executive of the Suffolk Mental Health Trust, will leave the organisation at the end of March as previously agreed in the trusts’ joint plans for a merger to create a new foundation trust for the area.

This merger is the preferred option for both trusts and NHS East of England. However there remains a process to go through with Monitor, the regulator for foundation trusts, which will take longer than previously thought to make a decision.

The plan also received a set back last week when the Co-operation and Competition Panel concluded the merger was in breach of competition principles and recommended against it.
