FINANCE: NHS Swindon is at “significant” risk of failing to achieve its planned £2.9m surplus.
A report to the board said the “key areas of risk” were contract overperformance at the Great Western Hospitals, Oxford Radcliffe and South West Specialist Commissioning Group as well as prescribing expenditure and achievement of savings plans.
The report says overperformance at GWH was mainly in day case and non-electives (including emergencies). It adds: “This position is currently being validated and challenge letters have been sent… The current forecast assumes that this contract will breakeven and there is significant risk within this assumption.”
The PCT used its full contingency reserve at month six.
