The chief executive of a leading London specialist trust is stepping down ahead of a major capital project.
Jan Filochowski is retiring from his post leading Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children Foundation Trust at the end of December.
The appointment of Mr Filochowski was announced in August 2012. He joined after five years as chief executive of West Hertfordshire Hospitals Trust.
He has led many NHS organisations during his career and is considered a specialist in turning around troubled organisations.
He said in a statement: “When I arrived[at Great Ormond Street] I said I did not anticipate being chief executive for a lengthy period of time.
“Since the summer, it has become clear to me that the trust needs long-term leadership for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead and that needs to come from someone who is able to make a longer term commitment than I can. These challenges include our ambitious IT project, the next phase of the hospital’s redevelopment and the new Centre for Children’s Rare Disease Research.”
