Can I trust Ask HSJ?
Yes. Ask HSJ provides answers based solely on journalism and expert content produced by HSJ’s editorial team. It does not draw from external or unverified sources, avoiding potential issues with accuracy or copyright. Our partner, Miso.ai, has worked closely with us to ensure the model produces reliable and relevant responses. We’ve also taken extensive steps to minimise incorrect or misleading answers – often referred to as ‘hallucinations’. If Ask HSJ doesn’t have enough information to answer your question accurately, it will let you know.
How does Ask HSJ work?
Ask HSJ is powered by a GenAI platform developed with our partner Miso.ai. Unlike general AI tools like ChatGPT or Google Gemini that gather information from across the internet, Ask HSJ is trained only on HSJ’s own journalism and expert analysis. When you ask a question, it responds in plain English, summarising the most relevant information and linking to deeper coverage from HSJ.
What is GenAI?
GenAI, short for Generative Artificial Intelligence, is a type of technology designed to create new content by learning from existing materials. Using machine learning, it can generate responses, text, and other media based on a natural language prompt. In the case of Ask HSJ, this means delivering fast, accurate answers to complex questions about the NHS and UK health policy.
Is Ask HSJ used to produce editorial content?
No. While HSJ’s editorial articles help train Ask HSJ, the tool itself is not used to write or publish any of HSJ’s journalism. However, the questions asked may help inform future editorial topics or FAQ content.
What data does Ask HSJ collect?
We log user questions to better understand what information is most important to our readers. Ask HSJ also collects anonymised data on usage patterns to help improve our service. You can learn more about how data is used in our privacy policy and Miso.ai’s privacy policy.
