A strategic health authority has published hospital trusts’ performance against dozens of quality indicators on the internet.

NHS East of England is the first SHA to make sure a large range of results is available to the public.

NHS North West last month published trust-by-trust performance on composite measures for six procedures as part of its improvement programme, called Advancing Quality.

NHS East of England strategy director Stephen Dunn said a stronger national policy message made it easier for the SHA to take the step.

He said: “We believe it will encourage trusts to explain or tackle areas of underperformance.”

The monthly information is available on the website of the region’s quality observatory, called Quality Intelligence East.

Medical director Robert Winter said in a statement: “Until now, this valuable data has only been available to trusts, but now everyone will be able to access it and see how their local hospital is performing. The key point is its credibility, as the information is independent and evidence based.”
