Helios Healthcare, the company mentioned in correspondence between the Department of Health and McKinsey in recently released emails, said its “strategic focus [would remain] on the German hospitals market” .
Emails revealed under the Freedom of Information Act showed McKinsey and DH director of provider delivery Matthew Kershaw had discussions with the firm, which runs a number of hospitals.
After the meeting in December an agenda for a meeting in February includes the item “London/Helios discussion”.
In a statement this morning, a spokeswoman for Helios said: “It’s our policy not to comment on market rumors. We’ve made it very clear that for the foreseeable future, Helios will concentrate on the German market. This represents a considerable growth opportunity and allows us to make full use of synergies between existing clinics.
“Although we are constantly exploring other market opportunities, we still do not believe it is necessary to change our strategic focus on the German hospitals market.”
A spokeswoman for the DH yesterday confirmed there had been no further meetings or correspondence with the company since December.
