Liverpool Women’s Foundation Trust is currently facing damages claims from more than 200 women operated on by a consultant, who claimed he was “overwhelmed” by his workload.

An independent review into urogynaecologist Mr George Rowland, published in March, found problems with 30 per cent of the operations he carried out between 2000 and 2007.

Around 100 women were thought to be making damages claims in March but a spokeswoman for the trust confirmed this week that the number of claims made against the trust by Mr Rowland’s former patients had now reached the 200 mark.

She noted that legal firms had been advertising in local papers about making claims against the trust.
