HSJ’s sister title Nursing Times has collaborated with the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence to launch a free online learning unit on managing diabetic foot problems.
Nursing Times Learning, the specialist online training programme for nurses from Nursing Times, developed the unit to familiarise nurses with the new NICE clinical guideline Diabetic foot problems - inpatient management published this week. It takes an average of one hour to complete.
The new guideline recommends that all NHS trusts develop a care pathway that would ensure patients with diabetic foot problems are cared for by a multidisciplinary foot care team.
Diabetic foot problems are a major cause of amputations, and patients should be admitted to hospital and treated as an emergency. However, the quality of care in this area has been found to vary across the NHS.
