South Warwickshire General Hospitals Trust has been awarded foundation status by regulator Monitor.
Trust chief executive Glen Burley said achieving foundation trust status would have been “unthinkable” four years ago, when the trust “was in considerable trouble”.
Trust chairman Graham Murrell said: “The decision marks the beginning of a new phase of development for the trust and its services, in which staff and the local community will be more engaged in overseeing our performance and influencing our future direction.”
The trust serves a community of 270,000. It employs 2,200 staff and provides a range of day care, inpatient, outpatient and maternity services.
