PERFORMANCE: Airedale Hospitals Foundation Trust is struggling to meet infection control targets, commissioners say.

A paper on performance to the December Board of the Leeds, Bradford and Airedale PCT cluster says: “Both Airedale Hospitals Foundation Trust (AHFT) and Bradford Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust (BTHFT) have failed their national MRSA targets. An action plan has been received from BTHFT.

Actions include: “MRSA colonisation suppression therapy to be started promptly as soon as presence of MRSA is detected; to raise awareness/share lessons across the trust via MRSA newsletter and in clinical governance meetings; and to ensure documentation of adherence to aseptic technique and VIPS scores on cannula documentation chart is completed accurately with daily VIPS audit on ward until 100 per cent compliance. An action plan has been requested from AHFT as part of the contract management process

“Delivery of the national C Diff targets also remains challenging for both AHFT and BTHFT. Performance as at 27th November shows that AHFT has breached the DH envelope with 14 reported cases compared to a target of 9. Whilst the BTHFT reported figure of 41 cases for the same period is below the DH/SHA envelope,
Monitor has issued a penalty point to BTHFT for Q2 underperformance against the Monitor thresholds. The CCGs are working with the trusts to address C Diff on a health economy basis.”
