PERFORMANCE: Telemedicine links into nursing homes have helped Airedale Foundation Trust cope with winter pressures and avoid some accident and emergency visits.

The trust’s March board meeting heard that A&E attendances were reducing from nursing and residential homes with telemedicine and the trust had secured CCG support to extend the service into other homes in the area.

The trust has struggled to meet the four hour A&E target, missing it in quarter three and in January. However it was compliant in February and, at the time of the March report, was fractionally ahead of the 95 per cent target for the fourth quarter – although this still posed a “significant risk”. The trust was amber-red rated for governance by Monitor for quarter three, and risks being red rated if it continues to fail on the four hour target.

It has also exceeded its clostridium difficile target for the year.
