PERFORMANCE: Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals Foundation Trust narrowly missed out on scoring average for all four standards in the new patient-led ward inspection regime.
The Health and Social Care Information Centre has released findings from the new system of Patient-Led Assessments of the Care Environment (PLACE).
Assessors score wards against standards on the cleanliness, condition, appearance and maintenance of patient areas, as well as the food and hydration for patients and their privacy and dignity.
Ashford and St Peter’s scored:
- 98.82 per cent for cleanliness;
- 88.16 per cent for condition, appearance and maintenance;
- 92.13 per cent for privacy, dignity and wellbeing;
- 85.55 per cent for food and hydration.
The national average score for each of the standards were:
- 95.74 per cent for cleanliness;
- 88.75 per cent for condition, appearance and maintenance;
- 88.87 per cent for privacy, dignity and wellbeing;
- 84.98 per cent for food and hydration.
During April-June 2013 a total of 1,358 assessments were undertaken in sites across 274 organisations. All eligible NHS organisations participated in the programme.
The PLACE system was introduced in April to replace the previous programme of Patient Environment Action Team (PEAT) assessments, which were undertaken from 2000-12.
