WORKFORCE: Ashford and St Peter’s Hospital FT has approved funding for 10 additional midwifery posts to cope with increased demand.

Head of maternity services Sandra Houston said: “We are delighted that the trust has recognised the need to expand our excellent team of midwives by a further 10 new posts.

“This will ensure local women have the very best possible maternity services here at St Peter’s Hospital. Over the last year we have once again seen the number of women choosing to have their babies here increase, with over 4,200 births in the department during the last financial year.

“We want to be able to provide the very best care for local women and these new posts will help us do that.”

Trust chief Executive Andrew Liles added: “Adding a further 10 new posts underlines the importance we place on ensuring we continue to offer the very best care and, on the back of our recent announcement to develop a midwifery led unit, on our ambition to have one of the best maternity departments in the country.”
