COMMERCIAL: Avon and Wiltshire Partnership Trust has been awarded a contract to provide substance misuse services to HMP Bristol.

Designed by the criminal justice service team within the mental health trust’s specialist drug and alcohol services division, Inside Recovery is a psychosocial substance misuse service.

The contract, awarded by NHS Bristol, is worth around £1.1m over three years. It is good news for the trust which faces losing a major contract with NHS Bristol after the primary care trust agreed to retender secondary mental health services. The Bath and North East Somerset and Wiltshire PCT cluster is also considering retendering services.

In a statement the trust said Inside Recovery “is designed to deliver truly integrated services, addressing offenders’ diverse needs, and working alongside colleagues in AWP’s prison mental health team to offer a responsive and holistic service” and would mean the trust now offers services at all stages of the offender journey in Bristol - from arrest, to court, to prison and upon release.

AWP’s regional criminal justice services manager Martin McLean said: “This is more than just keeping a contract we already had, HMP Bristol and commissioners have embraced a completely new approach and we look forward to working on this exciting partnership with them.”
