- Sarah Tedford seconded to regional role to oversee winter A&E performance
- Rachel Williams to be London’s operational improvement director
NHS England and NHS Improvement have appointed a joint “winter director” to oversee London’s accident and emergency performance.
The bodies have appointed Sarah Tedford, on secondment from her job as chief operating officer at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust, to the role.
Prior to her three years as chief operating officer at the east London trust, Ms Tedford was deputy chief executive of Kingston Hospital Foundation Trust.
Rachel Williams has also been seconded from her role, as chief operating officer at Kingston, to be the region’s operational improvement director.
The fourth quarter of the last two financial years has seen national performance on the four hour A&E standard at 88 per cent with London performance one percentage point lower.
However, in quarter four of 2015-16, London’s performance against the tougher type one A&E target was above the national average. In the fourth quarter of 2016-17, the capital’s performance fell by two percentage points and some trusts’ performance fell to near 50 per cent.
