FINANCE: Barnsley PCT has reported that an overspend on acute contracts is driven by over-performance at Barnsley Hospital FT.
A key area of over-performance is non-elective activity, with “non-elective short stay” procedures 30 per cent over plan. Payment by Results activity is 5 per cent over plan in total, while non-PbR activity is 11 per cent over plan.
The PCT’s current position against tariff based contracts is a £1.1m overspend with a forecast year end position of £1.5m overspend.
The PCT said: “As reported in previous months, activity increases at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust continues to be discussed with the Trust. The main areas under negotiation remain non elective admissions in Medical Assessment Unit and performance in elective activity going forward to the year end.”
