PERFORMANCE: Barnsley Hospital Foundation Trust expects to fail the four hour accident and emergency target this year with the board hearing it was now “mathematically impossible” to meet it after missing it for the last five months.
Performance in February was just over 92 per cent against a 95 per cent target.
An action plan is in place and the trust has sought support from the national emergency care intensive support team. But an area team, on behalf of the CCG, had concluded that the problem lay in discharging patients from wards which caused congestion in A&E: in one case in February a patient had waited more than 11 hours for admission.
The trust has added early ward rounds and taken other measures to try to improve discharge.
