COMMERCIAL: Barnsley Council has used systems provided by Liquidlogic, part of McKesson, to link social care records in real time to NHS records.

A statement published by Liquidlogic says the approach uses the NHS number to “enable improved information sharing, control and governance” for adults using social care services in the community.

The project is part of the Department of Health’s social care personal demographics service early adopters programme.

Barnsley metropolitan borough council business information manager Ian Fereday said: “The existing model of care delivery is largely one of social care and healthcare as separate entities working in partnership.

“However, huge transformation can be enabled by technology, allowing every pound invested in health and social care to work as hard as it possibly can while achieving both improved care delivery.”

Barnsley and Liquidlogic have worked together for five years, more recently focusing on joining Liquidlogic’s adult social care system to the PDS.
