With the end of the financial year looming, chief executives of mental health providers are very confident this month that they will end the year in financial balance. A score of 9.26 is the highest ever recorded for this measure and the highest score of this barometer.
Confidence is also up in commissioners' understanding of mental health. However, it is down when chief executives are asked if they think they will achieve foundation status by the end of the next financial year.
Indeed it is felt by almost three-quarters of responding trusts, in answers to new questions, that some trusts will never reach foundation status, and of those, 90 per cent think that more than 10 trusts will face this predicament. Confidence is down on recruitment of both nursing and therapy staff.
